What is the MySpartanIdentity Portal?
The MySpartanIdentity Portal is a Michigan State University self-service portal that allows all members of the MSU community to manage their chosen identity information in compliance with the University's policies. The information you provide here will be used throughout MSU systems where appropriate, legally admissible and allowed by policy.
What can I do with this portal?
This portal allows you to:
- Update your chosen name that will be used in MSU systems
- Specify your preferred honorific (Mr., Ms., Mx., Dr., etc.)
- Indicate your pronouns for use
Where will my information be used?
Once your identity has been updated, your chosen name and pronouns will be used throughout MSU systems where applicable, including:
- MSU ID cards (upon request of a new card)
- Directory listings (unless you have a directory restriction)
- Email systems
- Class and grade rosters
- Housing lists
- Learning Management System (D2L)
Important Note
Your legal name will continue to be used for official university records, including:
- Billing statements
- Financial aid documents
- Enrollment verifications
- Medical records
- Payroll records
- Transcripts
